The Rockford Fosgate R2-1200X1 is a single-channel Class-D car amplifier designed to power subwoofers. It provides a dedicated bass channel for systems that need more low-frequency output than a factory radio or small multi-channel amplifier can supply. With stable operation at 4-, 2-, or 1-ohm mono loads, it can be matched to a range of compatible subwoofer wiring configurations.

Rated output is 400 watts RMS at 4 ohms, 800 watts RMS at 2 ohms, and 1,200 watts RMS at 1 ohm. Its Class-D topology is engineered for efficient power delivery while helping limit demand on the vehicle electrical system. The amplifier's 20 Hz to 250 Hz frequency response is tailored to subwoofer-duty bass reproduction.

The R2-1200X1 includes variable low-pass and infrasonic filters for shaping the bass range sent to the subwoofer. A variable Punch EQ provides up to 18 dB of adjustment centered at 45 Hz for systems that need additional low-bass emphasis. The included remote level control gives the driver a convenient way to adjust bass level from the front of the vehicle.

Rockford Fosgate C.L.E.A.N. setup circuitry uses input and output indicators to help set gain levels with less risk of audible clipping. Low-level RCA inputs support aftermarket source units, while the supplied high-level input harness allows integration with many factory audio systems. RCA pass-through outputs can route signal onward to another compatible amplifier.

This mono amplifier fits well in a subwoofer-focused upgrade path for cars, trucks, and SUVs. It accepts 4 AWG power wiring and 8 AWG speaker wiring through compression terminal blocks. Its compact 1.9-inch-high chassis can be mounted where adequate ventilation, secure fastening, and protected wiring are available.

Key Features

  • 1,200-Watt RMS Output: Delivers up to 1,200 watts RMS into a 1-ohm mono load.
  • Class-D Topology: Provides efficient amplification for dedicated subwoofer systems.
  • C.L.E.A.N. Setup: Input and output indicators assist with setting gain levels.
  • Variable Filters: Low-pass and infrasonic filters help tailor subwoofer response.
  • Punch EQ: Adds adjustable bass emphasis from 0 to +18 dB at 45 Hz.
  • Remote Level Control: Lets the driver make convenient bass-level adjustments.

Design & Installation

The R2-1200X1 uses a cast-aluminum heatsink and convection cooling to manage operating heat without a cooling fan. Its top-mounted controls keep gain, crossover, infrasonic filter, and EQ adjustments accessible after installation. Power, Protect, C.L.E.A.N. In, and C.L.E.A.N. Out indicators provide at-a-glance operating feedback.

Install the amplifier securely in a dry, ventilated location and use 4 AWG power and ground wiring with a properly placed 200-amp fuse, which is not included. Match the connected subwoofer system to a final 1-, 2-, or 4-ohm load; loads below 1 ohm are not recommended. Use RCA inputs with an aftermarket radio or the included speaker-level harness when integrating compatible factory audio systems.
