The Rockford Fosgate PM500X1bd is a marine-grade mono amplifier designed to supply dedicated bass power in boats, powersports vehicles, and other 12-volt systems. It delivers continuous power for a subwoofer or mid-bass section without requiring a full-range multi-channel amplifier. Its compact chassis helps make it practical for systems where available mounting space is limited.

This amplifier is intended for listeners building a focused low-frequency system with compatible subwoofers or mid-bass drivers. It produces 150 watts RMS at 4 ohms, 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms, and 500 watts RMS at 1 ohm. The 1-ohm capability supports flexible wiring options when using multiple voice-coil subwoofers.

The PM500X1bd uses Rockford Fosgate Class BD circuitry, which is engineered for efficient low-frequency amplification. Its dedicated 20 Hz to 250 Hz frequency response, adjustable low-pass crossover, and fixed infrasonic filter help tailor the amplifier for bass duty. An onboard Punch EQ2 bass control provides adjustment at 45 Hz when a system needs additional low-bass emphasis.

For integration with factory or aftermarket audio systems, the amplifier accepts either high-level or low-level input through one RCA input pair. The high-level input includes an auto turn-on circuit, while RCA pass-through outputs can feed another amplifier in a larger system. Rockford Fosgate C.L.E.A.N. setup circuitry uses input and output clip indicators to assist with gain adjustment.

Built for marine and motorsport use, the PM500X1bd uses a conformal-coated circuit board, marine-grade two-part epoxy board coating, stainless-steel hardware, and a cast-aluminum heatsink. It is a suitable foundation for a dedicated subwoofer upgrade, whether powering one properly wired subwoofer or a multi-sub configuration that maintains a safe 1-ohm-or-higher load. An optional PLC2 Punch Level Control can be added for convenient bass-level adjustment.

Key Features

  • 500-Watt Mono Output: Delivers up to 500 watts RMS into a 1-ohm load.
  • Class BD Circuitry: Provides efficient amplification for dedicated bass frequencies.
  • Marine-Grade Construction: Coated circuit boards and stainless hardware support exposed installations.
  • C.L.E.A.N. Setup: Clip LEDs help set gain with visual feedback.
  • Low-Pass And Infrasonic Filters: Focus output on appropriate subwoofer and mid-bass frequencies.
  • High-Level Auto Turn-On: Connects to systems without dedicated RCA outputs.

Design & Installation

The PM500X1bd combines a cast-aluminum heatsink with convection cooling, a stealth top-mounted control panel, and marine-grade stainless-steel hardware. Its circuit board has conformal and two-part epoxy coatings intended for marine and motorsport environments. Power, ground, and speaker connections use captive C-clamp terminals.

Mount the amplifier in a secure location with ventilation and within reach of the vehicle or vessel's 12-volt electrical system. Use 4 AWG power wiring, an 80-amp external fuse, and speaker wire from 8 AWG to 18 AWG as appropriate for the installation. Match the final speaker wiring load to the amplifier rating, keep it at 1 ohm or higher, and use the crossover, infrasonic filter, and C.L.E.A.N. indicators when setting the system.
