The Hifonics ZG-1200.1D is a mono Class D car amplifier designed to power a subwoofer system from a compact chassis. It provides rated output at 4-, 2-, and 1-ohm loads, allowing it to suit a range of single- and multiple-subwoofer wiring configurations. It is intended for drivers building or upgrading the low-frequency section of a vehicle audio system.

With 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms, 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms, and 1,200 watts RMS at 1 ohm, the ZG-1200.1D offers a clear progression for matching a compatible subwoofer load. Its 10 Hz to 500 Hz frequency response is focused on bass-duty operation. The monoblock layout keeps setup straightforward when the amplifier is dedicated to subwoofer output.

The amplifier includes adjustable bass-management controls to help integrate a subwoofer with the rest of the system. A variable low-pass crossover, subsonic filter, phase control, and bass boost allow practical adjustment for enclosure type, speaker placement, and system tuning. The input level control is used to match the amplifier to the source unit's output voltage.

Class D amplification helps keep the ZG-1200.1D compact while delivering substantial mono output. Its PWM MOSFET power supply and aluminum heat sink support stable operation and heat dissipation. The chassis also uses angled terminals for more accessible wiring connections.

This amplifier can accept either RCA-level or high-level audio signals, making it suitable for many aftermarket and factory-radio upgrade paths. A bass remote is included for convenient adjustment from the driver's seat. RCA output connections can also pass signal to an additional amplifier when expanding the system.

Key Features

  • Mono Class D Design: Dedicated single-channel amplification for a subwoofer system.
  • 1-Ohm Rated Output: Delivers up to 1,200 watts RMS at 1 ohm.
  • Variable Low-Pass Filter: Helps blend subwoofer output with higher-frequency speakers.
  • Subsonic Filter: Reduces ultra-low frequencies below the selected point.
  • High-Level Inputs: Supports integration with radios lacking RCA outputs.
  • Included Bass Remote: Provides convenient adjustment of bass level from the cabin.

Design & Installation

The ZG-1200.1D uses an aluminum heat sink, PWM MOSFET power supply, nickel-plated RCA inputs, and angled connection terminals. Its compact 10.125-inch-long chassis is intended for secure mounting on a solid surface with adequate ventilation. The amplifier should be kept away from moisture and locations that trap excessive heat.

Use a compatible subwoofer wiring configuration that presents a 1-, 2-, or 4-ohm final load, then match the amplifier's rated output to the subwoofer system's RMS handling. Hifonics specifies 4-gauge power cable and a 60-amp fuse for this model; the main power cable should be fused within 18 inches of the battery. Connect the chassis ground to clean bare metal close to the amplifier, set the input level from minimum, and tune crossover controls carefully to avoid distortion.
