The Hifonics HCM-1200.1D Colossus Mini is a compact mono Class-D amplifier designed for adding amplified bass or powering a single-channel audio zone where installation space is limited. It is rated to deliver 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms, 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms, and 1,200 watts RMS at 1 ohm. Its small chassis makes it a practical option for cars, UTVs, motorcycles, and other installations that need a dedicated amplifier without a large footprint.

This amplifier is intended for systems using a compatible subwoofer load, with stable operation down to 1 ohm. Its mono configuration concentrates available output into one channel, making it suitable for a subwoofer system or other single-channel speaker application. The full-range Class-D platform also provides flexibility for compatible pro-style drivers when the system is configured appropriately.

Variable crossover controls allow the amplifier to be integrated with a wider audio system. The low-pass crossover is adjustable from 50 to 10,000 Hz, while the high-pass crossover is adjustable from 15 to 1,000 Hz. A variable bass boost control provides up to 12 dB of adjustment, and the included wired remote allows bass-level changes from the driver’s seat.

The HCM-1200.1D uses Ultra-Fi MOSFET output devices, an air-core transformer power supply, and multi-layer printed circuit boards with surface-mount components. Its mass-loaded extruded aluminum heat sink is designed to manage heat without fan cooling. Triple protection circuitry monitors over-voltage, under-voltage, short-circuit, and thermal conditions.

For a system upgrade, the amplifier accepts low-level RCA input signals and includes one pair of preamp outputs for signal pass-through to another amplifier. Nickel-plated RCA jacks and secure molded connection terminals support durable system connections. A delayed turn-on circuit helps reduce turn-on and turn-off noise when used with compatible source units.

Key Features

  • 1-Ohm Stable Mono Output: Delivers up to 1,200 watts RMS through one channel at a 1-ohm load.
  • Full-Range Class-D Platform: Supports subwoofer use and compatible full-range or pro-style driver applications.
  • Adjustable Crossovers: Variable high-pass and low-pass filters help match the amplifier to the rest of the system.
  • Wired Bass Remote: Lets the listener adjust bass level without reaching the amplifier.
  • Triple Protection Circuits: Provides over/under-voltage, short-circuit, and thermal protection monitoring.
  • Compact Aluminum Heat Sink: Uses an extruded aluminum chassis for thermal management without a fan.

Design & Installation

The Colossus Mini uses a mass-loaded extruded aluminum heat sink, Ultra-Fi MOSFETs, an air-core transformer power supply, and multi-layer PCB construction. Nickel-plated RCA inputs help resist corrosion, while CNC-machined aluminum logo badges and molded connection terminals give the amplifier a clean installation-oriented finish. Power and protection status are indicated by the included bass remote’s LED.

Mount the amplifier on a secure surface with adequate ventilation and do not mount it upside down. Use RCA-level signal inputs, connect a properly matched speaker load of no less than 1 ohm, and use an external 100A fuse on the power cable within 18 inches of the battery connection. Hifonics installation guidance recommends 1/0 AWG amplifier wiring for this model; set gain and crossover controls carefully to suit the source unit and connected speakers.
