The Crunch GP-1500.1 Ground Pounder is a single-channel car amplifier designed to power a dedicated subwoofer system. Its mono configuration concentrates amplifier output on low-frequency reproduction rather than full-range speaker channels. It is intended for vehicle audio upgrades that need separate amplification for bass.

This amplifier is suited to listeners building a subwoofer-focused system with either an aftermarket or compatible factory audio source. RCA inputs support conventional aftermarket head-unit connections, while speaker-level inputs provide an integration option when RCA outputs are unavailable. A wired bass remote is included for in-vehicle adjustment of the low-frequency level.

Crunch lists the GP-1500.1 at 1 x 750 watts at 4 ohms and 1 x 1500 watts at 2 ohms. The amplifier operates in mono only and is specified for 2-ohm or 4-ohm speaker loads. Its 10 Hz to 500 Hz frequency response and adjustable filtering are tailored to subwoofer duty.

Built-in tuning controls allow the installation to be matched to the subwoofer and the rest of the sound system. The variable electronic crossover uses a 12 dB-per-octave slope, while the subsonic filter is adjustable from 10 Hz to 40 Hz. Bass boost is switchable between 0, +6, and +12 dB, and phase adjustment covers 0 to 180 degrees.

The GP-1500.1 uses Crunch SPEED-FET MOSFET output components, a pulse-width-modulated power supply, and an aluminum QTD heat sink. It can serve as the bass amplifier in a system that retains factory audio or adds an aftermarket receiver. Proper power wiring, grounding, fusing, and a subwoofer load compatible with the amplifier's published ratings are essential for installation.

Key Features

  • Mono Subwoofer Amplifier: Uses one channel for dedicated low-frequency speaker operation.
  • 2- and 4-Ohm Ratings: Published power ratings support common subwoofer wiring configurations.
  • Variable Electronic Crossover: Helps set the frequency range sent to the subwoofer.
  • Adjustable Subsonic Filter: Limits ultra-low frequencies from 10 Hz to 40 Hz.
  • High- and Low-Level Inputs: Supports RCA sources and compatible factory speaker-level signals.
  • Wired Bass Remote: Provides convenient bass-level adjustment from the driver's seat.

Design & Installation

The amplifier has a black and red finish with an aluminum heat sink using Crunch Quick Thermal Dispersion Technology. It uses nickel-plated brass terminals and screw-down connectors for its electrical and speaker connections. LED diagnostic indicators monitor overload and speaker-short protection conditions.

Mount the amplifier on a solid surface with ventilation around the heat sink and away from excess heat or moisture. Use 4 AWG power and ground wiring at the amplifier terminals, 12 AWG speaker wire at the speaker terminals, and the specified two 25A fuses. Connect a subwoofer system with a final nominal impedance of 2 or 4 ohms, then set gain, crossover, subsonic filter, phase, and bass boost conservatively during setup.
