The Kenwood KAC-D5101 is a compact Class D mono amplifier designed to add dedicated subwoofer power to a vehicle audio system. It delivers 300 watts RMS to a 4-ohm load or 500 watts RMS to a 2-ohm load, giving installers practical options for matching a compatible subwoofer configuration. Its mono-channel design focuses on low-frequency reinforcement rather than full-range speaker amplification.

This amplifier is suited to drivers who want stronger bass from an aftermarket subwoofer while keeping the installation footprint manageable. The compact chassis measures 6-11/16 inches wide, 2-3/16 inches high, and 7-3/8 inches deep. That size can be useful for under-seat, cargo-area, or concealed amplifier locations where mounting space is limited.

The KAC-D5101 uses a variable low-pass filter to direct bass frequencies to the connected subwoofer. Its adjustable bass boost operates at 40 Hz, allowing measured low-frequency adjustment when system tuning calls for it. A 20 Hz to 200 Hz frequency response supports its role as a dedicated bass amplifier.

Kenwood's Dual Sigma Drive negative-feedback circuit is designed to improve damping factor and help control unwanted subwoofer movement. The amplifier also uses a Power MOS-FET switching power supply for its Class D platform. Together, these design elements support controlled low-frequency operation in a compact mono amplifier.

Installation flexibility includes RCA line-level input and speaker-level input capability. Signal sensing turn-on can help the amplifier work with systems that do not provide a conventional remote-turn-on lead. With support for 2-ohm through 8-ohm speaker loads, it can be integrated into a range of properly wired subwoofer systems.

Key Features

  • Mono Class D Design: Dedicated single-channel amplification for a subwoofer system.
  • 500W RMS at 2 Ohms: Supplies substantial continuous power to compatible 2-ohm loads.
  • Variable Low-Pass Filter: Adjusts the bass frequency range sent to the subwoofer.
  • 40 Hz Bass Boost: Provides adjustable low-frequency boost from 0 to +18 dB.
  • Speaker-Level Input: Supports connection to compatible factory-radio speaker outputs.
  • Signal Sensing Turn-On: Can switch on when it detects an input signal.

Design & Installation

The KAC-D5101 uses an extruded aluminum heat-sink design and a compact rectangular chassis. Its battery and ground connections use M6 screw-type terminal blocks, while the speaker output uses an M4 screw-type terminal block. Two 30-amp fuses are fitted for circuit protection.

For installation, mount the amplifier securely in a ventilated location and use a properly fused 12-volt vehicle power connection. Connect a subwoofer system with a final impedance between 2 and 8 ohms, then set input sensitivity, low-pass filter frequency, and bass boost to suit the source unit and subwoofer. RCA input is available for aftermarket source units, while speaker-level input and signal sensing are useful for compatible factory-system upgrades.
