The Hifonics ZG-1200.4 is a four-channel Class A/B car amplifier built to add dedicated power to an upgraded vehicle audio system. It can drive front and rear speakers from four channels or support bridged channel pairs where a system calls for higher output. This makes it a practical choice for listeners replacing low-power factory amplification or building a multi-speaker system around an aftermarket source unit.

Rated output is 150 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms and 300 watts RMS per channel at 2 ohms. For systems using bridgeable channel pairs, it is rated at 600 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms. Its 10 Hz to 22 kHz frequency response supports full-range speaker applications as well as filtered subwoofer-duty channel pairs.

The amplifier uses a Class A/B architecture with a PWM MOSFET power supply. An aluminum heat sink helps dissipate heat, while the integrated electronic crossover lets the installer direct appropriate frequencies to connected speakers. Variable high-pass and low-pass filtering provide useful control when combining component speakers, coaxials, or subwoofers in one installation.

Signal integration is flexible for many aftermarket and factory-radio upgrade paths. The ZG-1200.4 provides RCA inputs, speaker-level inputs, and a 2-channel or 4-channel input-mode selection. Its 0.2 to 6V input-sensitivity range allows the gain structure to be matched to the source unit rather than used as a volume control.

This amplifier fits well in a system that needs one chassis to power four speakers, or two speakers plus a bridged subwoofer channel pair. A selectable full-range, high-pass, or low-pass crossover arrangement helps tailor the output to the connected drivers. Proper impedance matching, secure power wiring, ventilation, and careful gain setup are important for reliable operation.

Key Features

  • Four-Channel Design: Powers up to four speaker channels from one amplifier chassis.
  • Bridgeable Outputs: Supports two bridged 4-ohm channel-pair outputs when needed.
  • Class A/B Amplification: Delivers full-range amplification for speaker-system upgrades.
  • Variable Crossovers: High-pass and low-pass filters help match output to drivers.
  • Flexible Signal Inputs: Includes RCA and speaker-level input options.
  • Aluminum Heat Sink: Helps manage heat during installed operation.

Design & Installation

The ZG-1200.4 uses an aluminum heat sink, angled molded connection terminals, and nickel-plated RCA input connections. Its PWM MOSFET power supply is designed to provide stable amplifier power, while onboard LED protection diagnostics monitor overload and speaker-short conditions. The amplifier measures approximately 14.25 inches long, 8.25 inches wide, and 2.375 inches high.

Mount the amplifier on a secure, dry surface with sufficient airflow and keep it away from moisture. Use 4 AWG power and ground connections, a 50A fuse, and 12 AWG speaker wiring at the amplifier terminals; the main power cable should be fused within 18 inches of the battery. Disconnect the vehicle battery before installation, set gain low before initial setup, and use 4-ohm loads for bridged operation.
