The Hifonics BXX1200.4 is a four-channel Brutus Series car audio amplifier built to add dedicated power to a vehicle speaker system. It is designed for users upgrading beyond head-unit power and needing separate amplification for front and rear speakers. Its Super Class A/B platform supports stereo operation across four channels or bridged operation across two channels.

At 4 ohms, the amplifier is rated for 150 watts RMS per channel, making it suitable for appropriately rated full-range speakers. At 2 ohms, it is rated for 300 watts RMS per channel for systems designed around lower-impedance loads. Two pairs of channels can also be bridged to provide 600 watts RMS per bridged channel at 4 ohms.

The BXX1200.4 provides adjustable filtering to help match amplifier output to the speakers being used. Its selectable full-range, high-pass, and low-pass crossover functions allow system builders to limit unwanted frequencies where appropriate. A variable bass boost and subsonic filter provide further tuning options for compatible system layouts.

RCA inputs connect the amplifier to a source unit with preamp outputs, while RCA outputs support signal pass-through to additional amplification. Low-noise preamplifier circuitry and nickel-plated RCA connections are designed to support a clean signal path. A wired bass-level remote is included for accessible level adjustment.

This amplifier fits well in a multi-speaker upgrade, including four-channel door-speaker systems or mixed systems using bridged channels for compatible 4-ohm loads. Its 2-ohm stereo stability gives installers flexibility when selecting speakers and wiring configurations. Protection circuitry, status LEDs, and an aluminum alloy heat sink support monitored operation in an automotive installation.

Key Features

  • Four-Channel Architecture: Powers four speakers in stereo or two bridged channels.
  • 1200W RMS Total Output: Delivers 4 x 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms.
  • Bridged Capability: Provides 600 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms.
  • Variable Crossovers: Helps tailor frequency output to the connected speakers.
  • Wired Bass Remote: Allows convenient bass-level adjustment from the listening position.
  • Protection Circuitry: Monitors thermal, overload, and speaker-short conditions.

Design & Installation

The BXX1200.4 uses a heavy-duty aluminum alloy heat sink to manage heat in its Super Class A/B design. Nickel-plated RCA input connections are intended to resist corrosion, while green power and red protect LEDs provide operating-status indication. The amplifier has 4 AWG power and ground terminals, 12 AWG speaker terminals, and two onboard 35A fuses.

Install the amplifier securely in a dry, ventilated location with clearance around the heat sink. Connect it to a properly fused 12-volt vehicle electrical system, a solid chassis ground, RCA-level source output, and speakers wired within its listed impedance ratings. Use high-pass filtering for many full-range speaker installations, and use bridged channels only with a 4-ohm load.
