The Hifonics Colossus Mini HCM-800.4D is a compact four-channel car audio amplifier designed to add dedicated power where installation room is limited. It is suited to cars, motorcycles, and UTVs that need a small-footprint amplifier for front and rear speakers or a mixed stereo-and-subwoofer setup. Its full-range Class-D design supports a broad range of speaker applications.

Rated at 100 watts per channel at 4 ohms and 200 watts per channel at 2 ohms, the HCM-800.4D can provide substantially more output than a typical radio's built-in amplifier. It can also be bridged into two channels at 4 ohms for applications requiring more power per channel. Variable high-pass and low-pass crossovers help tailor the signal to the speakers connected.

The amplifier uses a mass-loaded extruded aluminum heat sink to manage heat without fan cooling. Ultra-Fi MOSFET output devices and a full-range Class-D chipset support efficient operation in a compact chassis. Its published frequency response is 10Hz to 25kHz, making it suitable for full-range speaker amplification.

Installation flexibility comes from speaker-level inputs as well as nickel-plated RCA inputs. The input-level range of 0.2V to 5V accommodates many aftermarket and factory-source integration approaches. A delayed turn-on circuit is designed to reduce turn-on and turn-off noise with compatible source units.

The HCM-800.4D fits well as the speaker amplifier in a complete upgraded system, including systems that use a separate mono amplifier for subwoofers. It can run four speakers in stereo or operate in a two-channel bridged arrangement when matched to proper 4-ohm loads. A supplied bass remote provides adjustment relative to the amplifier's bass-control setting.

Key Features

  • Four-Channel Class-D Design: Powers four speakers efficiently from a compact amplifier chassis.
  • 800-Watt Maximum Output: Delivers up to 4 x 200 watts at 2 ohms.
  • Bridgeable Channels: Supports two-channel bridged operation with 4-ohm speaker loads.
  • Variable Electronic Crossovers: Helps direct appropriate frequency ranges to connected speakers.
  • High- and Low-Level Inputs: Works with RCA outputs or speaker-level source signals.
  • Triple Protection Circuits: Provides over/under-voltage, short-circuit, and thermal protection.

Design & Installation

The HCM-800.4D has a black, compact chassis with a mass-loaded extruded aluminum heat sink and CNC-machined aluminum Hifonics and Colossus badging. Its multi-layer PCB and surface-mount construction reduce component count, while molded angled power, ground, and speaker terminals support a cleaner wiring profile. The amplifier does not use fan cooling.

Mount the amplifier securely in a location with adequate ventilation and use the recommended cable and fuse provisions. Hifonics specifies 4 AWG power and ground terminals, 12 AWG speaker terminals, and an external 80A fuse for this model. Use RCA or speaker-level input as appropriate, configure the crossover for the connected speakers, and do not bridge the amplifier below a 4-ohm load.
