The Rockford Fosgate T2S1-13 is a 13-inch, single-voice-coil car subwoofer designed for systems that need substantial low-frequency output from a 1-ohm nominal load. It handles 2,000 watts RMS and 4,000 watts maximum power, making it appropriate for a properly matched high-power mono amplifier. Its 13-inch effective radiating area combines the cone and surround to move more air than a conventional 12-inch design.

This model is intended for enthusiasts building a dedicated bass system rather than a basic factory-audio upgrade. Its 19-250 Hz frequency-response rating and 25 Hz free-air resonance support deep bass reproduction when installed in an appropriately designed enclosure. A single 1-ohm voice coil simplifies amplifier-load planning for a one-subwoofer system.

The cone uses a three-layer glass fiber, Aramid honeycomb, and glass fiber construction, paired with an aluminum dustcap and injection-molded foam surround. Rockford Fosgate's VAST surround design increases usable cone area, while dual progressive Nomex spiders support controlled cone travel. The rated 34 mm Xmax provides substantial linear excursion capability for demanding bass passages.

Thermal and mechanical hardware is designed around high-power operation. The T2S1-13 uses a single-layer, edge-wound aluminum 4-inch voice coil, vented pole piece, triple-stack segmented ferrite motor, and an integrated aluminum heat-sinking shorting ring. Its die-cast aluminum frame also incorporates heat-sink fins.

This subwoofer can be used in sealed or vented enclosures, depending on available space and the desired response character. Rockford Fosgate specifies a 1.85 cu. ft. sealed enclosure or a 4.0 cu. ft. high-output vented enclosure as optimum designs. It is a large, heavy driver, so the enclosure, mounting surface, power wiring, and amplifier selection should all be planned as part of the complete system.

Key Features

  • 2,000-Watt RMS Rating: Supports high-power mono-amplifier systems when gain and enclosure design are properly managed.
  • Single 1-Ohm Voice Coil: Provides a straightforward 1-ohm nominal load for compatible amplifiers.
  • 13-Inch Effective Radiating Area: Combines the cone and VAST surround for increased air-moving surface.
  • Three-Layer Composite Cone: Glass fiber and Aramid honeycomb construction helps maintain cone rigidity.
  • 34 mm Xmax: Allows substantial linear cone travel for low-frequency reproduction.
  • Integrated Heat Management: Vented pole, heat-sink frame fins, and IDHS help manage operating heat.

Design & Installation

The T2S1-13 is built around a triple-stack segmented ferrite motor, aluminum die-cast basket, aluminum dustcap, and detachable die-cast aluminum trim ring. Its injection-molded foam surround is retained by a mechanical clamping ring, and dual Nomex progressive spiders use integrated lead wires. Custom insulated push-spring terminals accept 8 AWG slot-loaded speaker wire.

Allow for a 12.28-inch cutout, 9.70-inch mounting depth, and 14.73-inch overall diameter before selecting an enclosure location. Rockford Fosgate lists a 1.00-2.00 cu. ft. sealed-volume range, with 1.85 cu. ft. as its optimum sealed recommendation; its optimum high-output vented design uses 4.0 cu. ft. total internal volume tuned to 38 Hz. For vented use, the manual recommends a subsonic filter, and it recommends an active 80-100 Hz low-pass crossover at 12 dB per octave.
