The Rockford Fosgate P1S2-12 is a 12-inch single voice coil subwoofer designed to add dedicated low-frequency output to a car audio system. Its 2-ohm nominal impedance makes it suited to systems using an amplifier that is stable at a 2-ohm speaker load. With 250 watts RMS power handling, it is intended for a properly matched mono or multi-channel amplifier setup.

This subwoofer is a practical option for listeners building a first bass upgrade or replacing a compatible 12-inch driver. It is designed for standard sealed or vented enclosures, allowing the enclosure choice to shape the system's bass character. A sealed enclosure supports a compact installation, while the recommended vented design is tuned for deeper low-frequency extension.

The P1S2-12 uses a Kevlar-reinforced paper cone and dust cap paired with a high-density NBR half-roll surround. This combination is designed to provide controlled cone movement while handling the demands of bass reproduction. Its published frequency response is 20 to 250 Hz, covering the range typically assigned to a dedicated vehicle subwoofer.

Rockford Fosgate equips the driver with a 2-inch, four-layer high-temperature voice coil with a spun-laced Nomex reinforcement collar. A vented spider cavity, extended pole piece, and bumped backplate support cooling and excursion management. The subwoofer also has a 9 mm maximum linear excursion specification and a 45-ounce single-stacked motor structure.

For system integration, the P1S2-12 is best paired with an amplifier that can deliver power appropriate for its 250-watt RMS rating at the final load. The single 2-ohm voice coil provides one fixed nominal impedance per driver, so amplifier compatibility should be confirmed before wiring. Rockford Fosgate recommends an active low-pass crossover set between 80 and 100 Hz at 12 dB per octave for subwoofer use.

Key Features

  • 12-Inch Single Voice Coil Design: Provides dedicated bass output from a single 2-ohm voice coil.
  • 250 Watts RMS Handling: Supports amplifier matching for sustained everyday listening.
  • Kevlar-Reinforced Paper Cone: Helps maintain cone rigidity during bass playback.
  • High-Density NBR Surround: Supports controlled cone travel with a durable half-roll design.
  • Vented Spider Cavity: Helps manage airflow around the voice-coil assembly.
  • Sealed Or Vented Compatibility: Allows enclosure selection based on available space and bass goals.

Design & Installation

The P1S2-12 uses a sturdy 16-gauge compound-bend frame, protective PVC-textured magnet cover, and decorative ABS trim ring. Its high-temperature voice coil includes a spun-laced Nomex reinforcement collar, while the linear poly-cotton spider uses embedded 16-AWG tinsel leads. Custom insulated 10-AWG nickel-plated push terminals provide the speaker connection point.

Plan for a 11.25-inch mounting cutout and 6.00-inch mounting depth, then verify clearance behind the mounting surface before installation. Rockford Fosgate specifies a 1.02 cu. ft. sealed enclosure or a 1.79 cu. ft. vented enclosure; enclosure volumes are gross internal volumes before speaker and port displacement. Use an amplifier compatible with a 2-ohm load, set an appropriate low-pass crossover, and follow the amplifier manufacturer's wiring and impedance limits.
