The Hifonics HFEQ7 is a half-DIN car-audio signal processor that combines seven-band equalization, source selection, line driving, and active crossover functions. It is intended to give an aftermarket system more hands-on tonal adjustment than a typical head unit provides. Front, rear, and subwoofer outputs support systems using separate amplifiers for speaker zones and bass.

This equalizer is suited to listeners building or refining a multi-amplifier vehicle audio system, as well as installations retaining a factory radio with speaker-level outputs. It accepts RCA/CD input, high-level speaker input, and a front-mounted 3.5 mm auxiliary input. An input selector lets the user choose the connected source rather than relying on a single source connection.

Seven center frequencies cover low bass through upper treble: 50 Hz, 125 Hz, 315 Hz, 750 Hz, 2.2 kHz, 6 kHz, and 16 kHz. Each band offers up to 12 dB of cut or boost for targeted tonal changes. Separate master-volume, front-to-rear fader, and subwoofer-level controls provide straightforward system-level adjustment.

The built-in line-driver stage is specified to deliver more than 9 volts of maximum output through the RCA outputs. This can help provide a stronger preamp-level signal to compatible external amplifiers. The unit also includes selectable 60 Hz, 80 Hz, and 120 Hz subwoofer low-pass settings, with 12 dB-per-octave crossover slopes.

The HFEQ7 fits into an upgrade path between the radio or media source and external amplifiers. Its half-DIN chassis can be mounted in or under the dash when suitable clearance is available. With front, rear, and subwoofer outputs, it can serve as a central control point for a three-zone amplified audio system.

Key Features

  • Seven-Band EQ: Adjusts seven fixed frequency ranges from bass through treble.
  • 9-Volt Line Driver: Supplies a high-output preamp signal through the RCA outputs.
  • Three Input Types: Supports RCA, speaker-level, and front 3.5 mm auxiliary sources.
  • Active Crossover Outputs: Provides filtered front, rear, and subwoofer signal paths.
  • Selectable Subwoofer Crossover: Chooses 60 Hz, 80 Hz, or 120 Hz low-pass points.
  • System Level Controls: Includes master volume, subwoofer level, and front-to-rear fader controls.

Design & Installation

The HFEQ7 uses a compact half-DIN chassis with illuminated blue control knobs and a front-panel auxiliary input. Its layout places equalizer sliders and primary level controls within reach for in-dash or under-dash use. Mounting hardware is included for installation.

Connect the unit between the source unit and external amplifiers, using RCA input when available or the high-level input with a factory-radio speaker output. Use the front, rear, and subwoofer RCA outputs for their respective amplifier channels, and connect constant or switched +12-volt power through a 2-amp in-line fuse, chassis ground, and a remote-turn-on lead. Confirm mounting depth and route power, signal, and remote wiring away from moving parts before final installation.
