Hertz CS300S2 12" 2-Ohm Single Voice Coil Subwoofer

The Hertz CS300S2 is a 12-inch, 2-ohm single voice coil car subwoofer designed to add dedicated low-frequency output to an aftermarket audio system. It is rated for 350 watts RMS and 700 watts peak power handling. Its 2-ohm configuration is intended for use with a compatible external amplifier.

This subwoofer is suited to listeners building a compact sealed-box bass system without moving to a large enclosure. Hertz specifies enclosure designs starting at 32 liters for the CS 300 S2. The recommended sealed alignment supports a practical installation in many vehicle types.

The CS300S2 uses a polypropylene cone and dust-cap geometry developed with FEM simulations to help reduce low-frequency distortion. Its 86.5 dB sensitivity and 25 Hz free-air resonance are supported by a 12.5 mm linear excursion rating. These characteristics make it appropriate for systems focused on controlled bass reproduction.

A 35 mm voice coil is wound in six layers of pure copper over a high-temperature glass-fiber support. Hertz also uses a fluid-dynamic ventilation approach through the spider support and basket vents to reduce air-compression effects at higher excursion. The compact magnetic assembly and reduced mounting depth help support space-conscious custom enclosures.

The CS300S2 can be used as a single-subwoofer upgrade or incorporated into a multi-subwoofer system, provided the final load is compatible with the amplifier. Solid push terminals accept cable up to 8 AWG for straightforward wiring. An optional Hertz CG 300 grille can be added when cone protection is needed.

Design & Installation

The CS300S2 combines a high-density flux ferrite magnet with a polypropylene cone, rubber-protected magnetic assembly, and high-strength ABS mounting gasket. Its magnetic-group geometry and moving components are engineered for controlled operation at high excursion. The gasket is designed to accept the optional CG 300 protective grille.

Use this passive subwoofer with an external amplifier that is stable at a 2-ohm load and appropriately matched to its 350-watt RMS rating. Hertz provides a 32-liter sealed-box reference design with a 281 mm mounting hole and 19 mm enclosure material. For that sealed alignment, Hertz suggests a 15 Hz subsonic filter and a 60-70 Hz low-pass filter, both at 24 dB per octave.
