Audison AP690 6x9" 3-Way Car Speakers

The Audison AP 690 is a 6 x 9-inch car-audio woofer designed for vehicles with factory elliptical speaker locations, particularly in doors. It provides an upgrade path for systems that need stronger midbass output while retaining a compact OEM-oriented footprint. Its 4-ohm design and 95 dB sensitivity support use with a wide variety of car-audio amplifiers.

This model is intended for installers and vehicle owners replacing or upgrading 6 x 9-inch woofer positions. It is a woofer rather than a coaxial speaker, with a specified frequency response of 40 Hz to 5 kHz. That range makes it suited to low- and mid-frequency duties in a properly planned vehicle audio system.

The AP 690 is rated for 100 watts continuous power handling and 300 watts peak power handling. Its 25 mm pure-copper voice coil is designed to support power handling and low-frequency control. With 4 mm Xmax, the driver is engineered for controlled cone travel under dynamic musical playback.

Audison uses a water-repellent treated paper cone with a profile developed using FEM simulation and optimized with Klippel R&D Scan Vibrometer measurements. The Triple Wave surround profile is intended to support linear excursion. A high-density flux ferrite magnet motor supplies the magnetic system behind the woofer.

The compact basket and reduced-depth design are intended to simplify installation in OEM speaker locations. The woofer cone and dust-cap assembly includes a mechanical cut-off design that Audison states permits use without a filter. Double-contact high-current Faston terminals also provide a direct connection option for a tweeter in an appropriate component-system installation.

Design & Installation

The AP 690 uses a high-density flux ferrite magnet, a 25 mm pure-copper voice coil, and a water-repellent treated paper cone. Its compact basket has an abrasion-resistant, scratch-resistant coating, while the motor is secured with damping epoxy adhesive. The surround uses Audison's Triple Wave profile to support excursion linearity.

Confirm the vehicle's factory opening and available mounting clearance before installation; Audison lists dimensions A through D as 238 mm, 222 mm, 86 mm, and 81 mm. Observe polarity at the double Faston terminals and use secure speaker wiring connections. For systems using separate tweeters, plan the crossover and wiring arrangement around the overall system design.
